The data so far largely bears this out. Immigrants contributed more than $650 billion in taxes in 2023, according to the American Immigration Council, an advocacy nonprofit. On a per capita basis, those receipts likely eclipse the contributions of non-immigrants. A recent white paper by the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, analyzed years’ worth of tax receipts and government expenditures between 1993 and 2023. It found that immigrants, both documented and undocumented, contributed vastly more in taxes than they received in benefits at the local, state, or federal level. I'm picking on rust here because it's no secret it has a long history of having some very... enthusiastic users. But my broader point is that tools are just tools. They're not our identity, a mark of our wisdom, or a moral choice. Other people have different perspectives, tastes, and skills - and they may prefer different tools to us.

Recent talk of agentic AI capabilities, which would let Copilot handle tasks for you automatically, also sparked plenty of criticism from Windows users. And with all of the focus on AI, Microsoft has also released some disastrous Windows updates over the last year, which have bricked OS installations.
